The XR4Register at Ford Fair
THE definitive Ford show was here: Ford Fair and the veterans of this show were on the stand bright and early! The traffic and queue situations of past years was much better managed this year. Even the 'late' comers had no
problems getting in. This year we were without Dave & Caz on the Register stand as they were invited to show their car on the Fast Ford Stand.
Al & Paul were there bright & early at 6am with their 'secret squirrel' project car, all positioned and under wraps before anyone else was there. We managed to 'work' around the mummified car and positioned the other cars so the stand looked appealing.
Some months ago, Alan & Paul had purchased 'Pikeys' old XR 4x4 JanSpeed turbo. It was their intention to have an engine fitted, turbo re-conned, graphics stuck on and running for the big unveiling at Ford Fair. 3 out of 4 wasn't bad as it was not running but that was soon cured by someone! A small crowd gathered in anticipation for the ceremony, as Paul & Alan lifted the covers on their 'creation'. The traditional smashing the Champagne bottle against the 'vessel' was skipped, as perhaps the quick release 'blue peter' bumper wouldn't have took the impact! Well, done to those that spent time and effort to help the boys get it ready at such short notice. !
The layout of Ford Fair had changed this year and there wasn't as many trade stands, but once again it was a bargain hunters paradise as there were lots more Auto Jumbles around. You just cannot go round the show in one day as
there were plenty of car clubs and lots to see. Thanks once again to Ian for
sorting us out with a good plot which backed up against XROC.
It was nice to see Ben after a years absence and his car looks as shiney as it did last year! Good to see Marcus, Paul & Lydnsey, Martin H, who are all relatively new members. They must be gluttons for punishment to come back for more! Talking of new faces, we had a Mr Mischief (aka Mark Anderson) with his XR4i on the stand! It wont be long before he is upto his tricks again... talking of which, the xmas bash ain't far off... (shudder !!)
Alan and Gengis even managed to go and do a 0-60 stint. Gengis had to bow out after 2 runs as a leaking radiator, broken engine damper & a few other issues were not helping matters. Caz reckons the 4x4 is crying out from neglect as Gengis has been spending his time on his 4i project.
Gengis 1st run was in the 5 secs which is very quick but not his usual
stonking 3 secs blasts. His second run was a cruise due to above reasons. Al's run was 9.13 secs which is a respectable figure for a standard XR4i
Being as it was the 1st Sunday of the month, our 'on tour' pub meet was held on the stand. Due to lack of shelter, sitting in the direct sunlight at 2pm had its toll on some people! A few people cursing as they had forgotten their factor 30+, whilst others just opened their wallets and paid up their dues without question which made a change! We don't know what's worse; getting
sun burnt or getting heat stroke as the latter was experienced by our very own Caz. Space for gazebo next time lads or else she will be 'amending' your
profile pages !!! You have been warned !
All in all a very good day out and one enjoyed by everyone...
