The XR4Register Profile - Gary Crisp
Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.8

I used to have a Ford Capri that had a nasty problem of the rear end letting go in the damp and it was getting very scary! I had enough of it and so I decided that a new car was on the agenda. After a fair few test drives including Merc 190e and bog standard 2.0, I was not impressed. I nearly gave up but then I spotted her at a local car dealer in Leicester....
Yep it was 6 years old XR4x4 mkI 2.8i, just sitting there in gleaming white ! Once driven, I just had to have it. That was in 15 years ago; in November 1992.
The car was standard when I bought it and is still virtually standard to
this day, except it now has a 2" big bore Pecco on the rear end. This came off another XR4x4 which I just got hold for spares.
Thanks to the XR4 Register I seem to have found some people who share an
interest in XR4's of all shapes and sizes and swop ideas.
On going project:
Currently I'm stripping down the spare car and doing up the engine. This
again will be a standard engine but just rebuilt. i.e. new core plugs, oil pump, clutch, etc.
The plan is that once the donor engine is finished, I will take out take the original engine, replace it with the refurbished one. The one taken out will then go through the same treatment of being rebuilt. So, a lot of work to do on both engines.
All this can be seen on the Projects page on the xr4x4 bulletin site. Crunchie's Project
