Welcome to the XR4Register website
The XR4Register at the Classic Ford Show, Santa Pod 13th June 2004
After the last event at Santa Pond, it certainly re-deemed its name back as
the weather was Glorious!. Even though our stand looked a bit bare with 5
cars due to illness, car problems and no showers we still had an excellent
There was certainly a lot to see & do for every one:
A wide range of Ford Clubs with cars from the 50's to the
80's to keep young & and old happy.
A fair few trade stands and spare parts to keep the Auto
A Drag strip and powerful cars to keep the petrol heads
Blue skies, sunshine and temperatures in the 80's to make
Bhav feel at home!
A 'mini' fair & bouncy castles to keep the kids quiet...well
that was the idea anyway!!
Mike Brewer from TV programme 'Driven' was there for general commentating
and judging the cars at the end of day ceremonies for the overall 'Car of
the Decade' from the 50' 60's, 70's and 80's. So, we picked Peter Doyle's
very smart MkI XR4i 2.8T to represent the 80's from our stand. Although the
competition was very stiff, sadly Pete came away empty handed. Better Luck
next time Pete.
There were lots of cars down the strip trying to beat their own times and
obviously the car next to them too but some Ford Anglia's, Cortinas &
Escorts managed to put a lot of modern cars to shame ! Our very own John
Bell decided to take his car down the strip and did a 1/4mile time of 15.871
sec's, reaching 82.86mph in his 2.0 turbo (Johns Driver Profile). A very respectable
time but they were soon joined by a dragster which showed them all how to do
it in less than 10 seconds!
In the end no one could challenge the sheer power of Fire Force 2 who were
there with their outrageous jet car, with a run of 254mph in 6 seconds !
(Gengis you have got a long way to go to beat that mate!).
We were also joined by Alex with his modded XR3 (Alex's Driver Profile), who also took his car down
the strip and did a 17.7 sec run, Well Done!. Towards the end of the day,
the organisers allowed people (who had wrist bands) down the strip, to try
their luck as many times as their car could take it! This pleased John but
not his turbo as it was getting a tad hot after umpteen runs!
All in all a good day out and well worth a re-visit next year.
