Also Fitted the ABS system out of the Cosworth into the 4i, it went in with a modification to the bulk head and has significantly improved the braking performance and pedal feel.

The winter project has gone very well and now the cossie lump is finally in and working ok (touch-wood). I ran the 4i on the standard set-up for a few weeks, so that I could iron out any problems, knowing that it wasn't the new stuff that was causing the probs. When we finally came to starting the car after wiring in the ecu and matching it to the existing wiring, also doing the same to the abs ecu, we turned the car over to prime the new high pressure oil pump. Then connected the HT leads, at the first turn of the key it started. I was well chuffed!! All thats was left after that was to get all the interior back together.

On the first test drive I found that the exhaust was catching on the body underneath the drivers seat. On further inspection I found that it was not a 2wd exhaust but a 4wd drive one and I couldn't get it to fit, so on went a Mongoose stainless steel one, 3 inch with a single back box and a 3.5 inch tail, very well made and sounds awesome.

I had a power run done on the car at Street Racers and it made 238bhp compared to the 211 bhp it made when the engine was in the Saph. After fitting the Dark Green Injectors, 3 bar map sensor and having a new chip in the ecu, the power jumped up to 322 bhp, with 252 bhp at the wheels and 285 lb/ft of torque at 18psi. This has made the car feel very quick and great fun to drive!! In the quest to get the car to handle better, as I want to use the car on track as well as on the road, I've fitted the car with Koni adjusatable shocks and Ahmed Bayoo spec Springs, which are not much lower, to help keep the geometry near standard, the rear beam has been fitted with some R&B Motorsport shims. This greatly improves traction and gives the car a self-centering effect (moving the geometery from a toe-out to toe-in set up) for more predictable handling.

Next on the agenda is to fit an uprated fuel pump and a boost controller. I would also like to get the body work finished off as the front wings need a respray after all the leaning over them to fit this engine in and where I also caught the wing carrying the jack passed!!!

My car has been used as a feature project with the XR4 Register at the National Restoration Show 2005 click here for the show report
